Designer To Watch – Wen Pan

Meeting designer Wen Pan at BFC Showroom during London Fashion Week

Can you introduce yourself?

I was born in a small industrial city in China. I started my own label in 2018, after graduating from Central Saint Martins womenswear course 3 years ago.

What are your main inspirations for this collection?

I was inspired by the hanging bed sheets in ruins in Shanghai. The used floral sheets indicates a living trace of people. I want to capture this trace and the contrast between the pretty floral and rough ruins. China is experiencing a huge change on urbanization, these ruins are used to be people’s home, but some people are not moving, as they don’t want to leave their original home just because the government wants to change. I can see a quiet resistance through it, and I want to show this resistance poetically.

What is the SS19 message?

Showing a character of romantic grunge through asymmetrical cutting and layers of textures.

How do you see the future of fashion?

All about identities and diversities.

Mix & Match – What song or art piece would you associate to your collection?

Fade into you by Mazzy Star

What’s next? – After this collection

I am working on AW19 collection now, which will be showing next February.

Spending a whole day in British Library.

Something unusual / weird you like to do…
